As part of Mad Pride 2012, the Mad Poets & Krazy Cases Fundraiser will take place at Gallery Gachet on international Mad Pride Day, Sat July 14th. This open mic format event features poets, visionaries, singers, strummers and hummers with something to get off their chests and who are in the mood to celebrate our human bio-diversity and unparalleled tenacity in the face of persistent challenges and barriers.
Also featured will be eyeglass cases, decorated with flair by members of the West Coast Mental Health Network, on exhibit and offered for sale as part of its Mad Poets and Krazy Cases fundraiser. Come early from 3 – 5pm, and help the West Coast Mental Health Network paint cases. Decorate your own and you can keep it for a mere $2!

Mad Pride is a global, grassroots movement that celebrates and reclaims the term, MAD and advocates for the de-stigmatization of mental illness.
This year our Mad Pride Cabaret theme embraces and jostles with ideas surrounding madness and disability. The exhibition taking place at Gachet during this time “Madness and Mobility – The Art of Inclusion” presents the works of four Vancouver-based artists and industrial designers employing innovative and artful solutions to making art and space inclusive. They examine the confinements – psychological, physical and economic – that artists and individuals can face when informed by mental health issues, physical impairment or other forms of marginalization. Engaging the concept of mobility – literally and metaphorically – these artists work to invent escape routes from confining restrictions, creating spaces of inclusion while underscoring the creative process essential to equitable access.

The cabaret begins at 6pm. If you want to come down and participate, just sign up between 5 – 6pm to get your voice heard.
