This summer, we reached our halfway point for the Inheriting Resistance Project!

Join us as we celebrate the stories of our communities with a multimedia extravaganza of art, film, and reflection. We will be showcasing excerpts from the first set of our interviews and will be having a panel discussion with some of the interviewees.

Childcare on site, light refreshments will also be available. This is a free event.
Accessibility info: Gallery Gachet has double wide front doors and a wheelchair ramp. There are no steps in the space and the single washroom
has a bar.

*******************

For the past year, NOII has been documenting the stories of people in our communities who have shaped a diversity of social justice struggles on unceded Coast Salish Territories over the past 20-40 years. This project emerged out of our desire to learn more about the history of our intersecting movements (anti-war, anti-poverty, anti-racist, Indigenous, labour, queer, anti-imperialist, feminist and migrant justice) and to
directly learn from  those people who have paved the path of resistance for our generations. Our goal is to interview a total of 10-12 people, whose interviews we will be releasing next year as a book and full-length videos.

We wish to acknowledge that Inheriting Resistance project came about after the passings of beloved elders and community members, Phillipa Ryan and Hari Sharma, whose life and work inspired and guided many of us. We remain mindful of how many stories and lessons remain to be shared in order to create a meaningful intergenerational movement. We recognize that this project is one small part of centring the perspective and wisdom of older activists, organizers, and revolutionaries, and that unfortunately we are unable to interview as many people as we would like to. We are committed to honouring the legacy of those who have struggled before us – and in many cases, who still continue to struggle alongside us – for social, economic, political, and environmental justice.  Together, we envision a humanity where everyone has the right to sustenance and the ability to provide it, where we are free of oppression, and are able to live meaningfully in relationship to one another and in reverence for the Earth that sustains us.
