Annual Submissions Process – reinstated this year!

We have some exciting news to share with artists everywhere. We will be reinstating our annual submission process over the next year and will be putting out our call by the end of this year. Deadline will be in early 2013. During this process, we will be choosing our submissions for the programming year 2013-14.

Currently, we are fully programmed for this year (Apr 12 – Apr 13), but below are our submission guidelines so when our call goes out, you know what to expect. If you want to submit prior to the deadline, you can request that your submission be put forward into the next round. We look forward to continuing to program exceptional contemporary art that speaks to and deepens our mental health and social justice inspired mandate.

*** Please accept our apologies for not responding to your submission yet if you have submitted to Gallery Gachet, we will get to you eventually, we promise. These submissions will now be addressed in the coming few months.

GALLERY GACHET SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

We welcome proposals that challenge mental health stigmas, barriers to full social, cultural, and economic participation. We actively look to create and maintain collaborations within the mental health, disability arts and cultural sectors, as well as the DTES neighbourhood. Exhibitions may thematically coincide with other events and festivals.

We accept proposals for solo, group, juried and curated exhibits. We accept proposals for major exhibition projects, screenings, workshops, performances and collaborations. We pay CARFAC fees, and provide support for openings, catering, marketing, mailings, A/V equipment, and installation.

Include in your package:

– at least 10 supporting images (slides or digital) per artist

– artwork list including title, medium, dimensions and year

– artist’s CV for each participant (exhibition history)

– written proposal stating a well-thought out theme for the show (250-500 words)

Gallery Gachet supports artists marginalized by their mental health, trauma and/or abuse experience, by working for cultural and economic justice. Our programming features a range of art practices from contemporary to outsider, and a range of mediums, from photography, video, performance art, drawing, 3D, installation, ceramics, textiles and more.

Please e-mail submissions to Lara Fitzgerald, Programming Director, programming@gachet.org, or drop off clearly labelled packages to Gallery Gachet during opening hours, Weds – Sun 12 – 6pm.
