Gallery Gachet is pleased to announce our new workshop series in partnership with Enterprising Women Making Arts (EWMA)! On select Mondays from 4-6pm Gallery Gachet artists will lead a diverse array of workshops on different themes and mediums. Keep an eye out each month for new workshops.

Sewing Circle @ EWMA | Monday, November 14th and 28th, 4-6pm
As the air turns chilly and rainy, it’s a great time to gather together and pick up that sewing, knitting or crochet project you’ve been meaning to get to. Come and join us in and informal sewing group on the second and fourth Monday of every month. Enjoy some uninterrupted time and space to cozy up and work on your projects. Share tips, ideas and suggestions with other sewing gals.
Beeswax Candle Making | Monday, November 21st, 4-6pm
Participants will learn how to create simple rolled beeswax candles. No previous experience needed. These great smelling candles are all natural and make special holiday gifts, or perhaps something for yourself! Swing by EWMA and join in the fun.
Tea and Conversation Series | Thur, Nov 17th, 1-3pm
Gallery Gachet’s volunteers are hosting tea times where folks can stop by to share tea and conversation while creating and maintaining existing social relationships. Those interested in spending time together, sharing tea and conversation, can stop by Gallery Gachet.

Mercenary English | Fri, November 18, 7-10pm
Please come to the launch of the second edition of Mercenary English! In its strident and unsettling debut, Mercedes Eng’s Mercenary English, a book of poetry embedded in the Downtown Eastside, seized “the politics of language” from the usual handlers and re-assigned them to new terrains: the colonial battlefield, the racialized/radicalized body, and the insurgent neighbourhood. This second edition now seizes its own critical frames through the inclusion of an essay on the author’s departure from the neighbourhood after a 20-year residency and a conversation with poet and critic Fred Moten, as well as new versions of “how it is,” Eng’s living poem mapping gentrification in the DTES. All book sales at the launch will be donated to Gallery Gachet!
REVERB Queer Reading Series | November 24, 7:00-9:30pm
REVERB: A Queer Reading Series aims to support and showcase emerging and established LGBT2QI writers through a quarterly reading series with an anti-oppressive framework. We believe that writing is a radical act that can transform dominant narratives about whose lives and loves are important and valued, and that sharing that writing can empower, inspire and transform ourselves and our communities.
We write and read on unceded Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh land, and are committed to radical inclusion in our series, recognizing that access to the world of writing, literacy, and even queerness continues to be limited. As organizers, we endeavor to create a reading series where white-identified readers are always in the minority to ensure a space that centres the voices of Indigenous, Black, mixed writers and all writers of colour.
All our writers self-identify on a spectrum of queerness that centres trans and femme experiences.
Check your assumptions at the door; REVERB is a body-positive, anti-racist, anti-sexist, and hella queer- and trans-positive event.
Readers for REVERB this November are Hasan Namir, Jane Shi, Cicely-Belle Blain, RJ Edwards, Listen Chen, and Kyla Jamieson!
