after homelessness…The Photographs
Headlines Theatre held a photography contest to find an image for their play, after homelessness… An image that spoke to what living in unsafe or inadequate housing looked like; an image that illustrated the consequences of being in a system that often does not work. This exhibition features the top 10 photography entries; the winner has been selected by Headlines Theatre and the 9 runners up by a jury from Gallery Gachet.
In Our Backyard: Oppenheimer Park Community Art Show The 2nd Annual Community Art Show, “In Our Backyard” features inspired works by artists and allies from the resilient and creative community in and around Oppenheimer Park. Works include printmaking, painting, traditional craft, installations, drawings, video and documentation, reflecting the rapidly changing community. Show your spirit in the parade on November 6th at 5pm from Oppenheimer Park to Gallery Gachet with the Homeless Band, artists, community members and neighborhood families.
Hope in Shadows: portraits of our community
This exhibition is a selection of winning photographs from the annual Hope in Shadows contest for Downtown Eastside residents. Oppenheimer Park is “the heart of the city” for many local people, and has been represented in winning images since the Hope in Shadows contest began in 2003. A tribute to Oppenheimer Park, this retrospective shows a vibrant community – reflecting moments of camaraderie, play and tranquility.
