The Art Cart is rolling — first Spring training!

The Art Cart, Gachet and Oppenheimer Park’s mobile art gallery and shop, is up and running for the season. Each time the Art Cart goes out to a market or event it is accompanied by the artist whose work is being sold and an Operator. All community members are welcome to train as an Art Cart Operator.

The training takes a couple hours and once trained you can travel with the Cart — pulling it by hand or hitching it to your bicycle.

Are you an artist living in the Downtown Eastside? If you train as an Operator, you can both sell your work on the Art Cart and be independent in setting it up and traveling with it. The Art Cart puts the means of distribution and sales of art into your hands. We’re always looking for new artists. If you’d like to learn more about how to get involved or sell your art, get in touch with Alex Leslie at artcartgachet@gmail.com or drop by Gallery Gachet to get in touch. The Art Cart was developed particularly to serve the Downtown Eastside’s community of street and survival artists.

Our first training, held at Oppenheimer Park, trained a new crop of Operators.

The Art Cart is lightweight and easy to navigate.

The Art Cart is built for the coastal climate and the tarp is simple to put up.

Giant fish takes refuge under generous tarp area.

The Art Cart can travel all over Downtown Vancouver and the East Side thanks to its simple bike hitch.

Have Art Cart, will travel.

An Operator training for women is in the works. And look for us at the DNC Market in Pigeon Park soon!

If you’re part of a festival, market or community event and would like to see the Art Cart at your event, get in touch.

This project was made possible through the generous support of the City of Vancouver’s Great Beginnings Program, and The Community Arts Council of Vancouver (CACV).
