CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Deadline for submissions: July 4th, 5pm
Are you a Performer, Musician, Actor, Performance Artist, Comedian, or do you secretly believe you are and are looking for somewhere to let it out? Are you a psychiatric survivor, consumer, or ‘mad’ person living somewhere outside the mysterious and disturbing category of “normal”? Or maybe you make art about madness that you are willing to donate for a fun-raiser?
Consider sharing your awesome-ness at Gallery Gachet, West Coast Mental Health Network & Stand Up for Mental Health’s Mad Pride Cabaret on Sat July 13th, 2013, (at 88 East Cordova Street, from 7 – 10.30pm.)
In celebration of International Mad Pride Day on July 14th, this multifaceted, fun time, extravaganza event features performers who are proud to be called crazy; comics, poets, visionaries, singers, strummers and hummers with something to get off their chests and who celebrate our human neuro-diversity and unparalleled tenacity in the face of persistent barriers. We’re also throwing an art fun-raiser on the Art Cart, offering affordable original pieces of art to raise funds for future Gachet programs.
Mad Pride is an international movement created by psychiatric survivors, consumers, folks labeled “mentally ill”, all of us who proudly reclaim the words mad & crazy, and those in solidarity with us.
This year our Mad Pride Cabaret’s theme jostles with ideas surrounding mental illness and all its definitions and labelling within the context of living in a mad world. The main gallery exhibition during this time, BorderLines presents the artworks of 10 national and international artists interrogating ideas pertaining to diagnoses. In our Salon Shop, we showcase the local Gachet and Downtown Eastside community artists in It’s a Mad World. For more info on these exhibitions, visit gachet.org/exhibitions.
You can contribute to the Mad Pride Cabaret in one of two ways:
Deadline for both: Thurs July 4th, 2013, 5pm.
