Full Moon / Lu(na)cy

VANCOUVER — Participate in the full moon lunacy at Gallery Gachet Jan. 14 with a collaborative showcase of performance art. Doors open at 7pm for the 8pm performance at 88 E. Cordova St., admission by donation.

An exhibition, workshops, and an open studio lead up to the ?Full Moon? opening performance. January?s work speaks to the objectification and abuse (verbal, emotional, and physical) of women. ?Full Moon? reconnects to the earth goddess and spirit, culminating in healing. Performance and vocals featuring Diane Thorn, Zola, Sven Black, and Mehlinda Heartt.

?We are starting with the opposing themes of violence and healing and are letting people react to the space,? says co-curator Diane Thorn. ?I?m quite curious to see how it all pans out.?

Closing night ?Lu(na)cy? on Jan. 28 (doors at 7pm, performance at 8pm) features short performances and layered video installations developed during the month.

?The development of this whole event is heavily reliant on the participation of the public, volunteers, networking, and synchronicity,? Thorn says. ?This is very different from the usual, planned-out-to-a-T and formal visual arts exhibition I tend to be involved with.?

Footage of the opening performance will add a layer of spontaneity to the installation. There will also be workshops and other opportunities to participate throughout the month.
