Starry Night: Light Installation

by Zola Novak

I woke up one morning from a dream. I was in the Gallery Gachet and it was filled with little lights, like a starry night. Not the electric cold lights of today, but how it must have been in times long past, before the plastic and commercialism, when all they had were candlelight or tapers, back in the days when the night was truly dark. There is something magical about a candles light. It is a living thing. It flickers, moves and gives gentle warmth. It has a life span. It is created, does its thing, and dies. And so do we all.

Driven by that picture in my head, I mobilized the collective to help me make it a reality. Organizing numerous work parties I put out the call, and people responded.

Every tiny candle sconce has been in many giving hands from conception to birth. Collective members, volunteers, staff and friends of the Gallery all generously gave time from their own busy lives to take part in this dream of mine. The result is the dynamic power of a collective in motion. Each candle is a metaphor for every person who gets on board and works with others in a positive fashion to make good things happen. When we all pull together, work together for a greater goal, the results are a beautiful thing, a powerful thing. Starry Night installation is the physical reminder that we have the collective power to move mountains as we reach for the stars.

The mini wall sconces that make up the Starry Night light installation are all handmade and available for purchasing as part of our fundraising efforts, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Gallery. You are invited to e-mail us with sconce orders.
