The Art Cart gears up for a new season + meet the new coordinator!

After a brief hibernation, the Art Cart is heading out into the world again.

The Art Cart is a mobile art gallery and vending cart for the communities of Gallery Gachet and Oppenheimer Park. Bicycle-powered and capable of serving as a workshop table, exhibition space and alternative art sales space, the Art Cart is designed to expose Downtown Eastside artists to new audiences and to facilitate distribution for artists who have been negatively affected by their economic and mental health situations.

The Art Cart can roam into different neighbourhoods, visiting street festivals, market and community gathering places. The Art Cart is a collaborative project of Gallery Gachet and Oppenheimer Park.

The Art Cart has a new coordinator, Alex Leslie. Alex comes to the project from a background of workshop facilitation with Megaphone street newspaper’s community writing program.

Meet the coordinator & artist drop-in: Saturday March 2nd, 1-5 PM, in the Gallery

If you are a DTES painter, writer, carver or visual artist and would like to gain exposure for your work through the Art Cart, drop in and chat with Alex on Saturday March 2nd. If you work for a DTES organization that serves local artists who would benefit from accessing the Art Cart, consider contacting Alex to arrange for her to come speak to your group.

The Art Cart is open to new destinations

Think the Art Cart could visit your festival or event? We have wheels!
