VISUAL APOSTROPHES – Leef Evans

Leef Evans’ solo exhibit features three series: portraits of people at the art studio at the Coast Resource Centre (at left); the massive sandstone rock walls in Stanley Park; work utilizing the Greek myth of the Minotaur parlaying it into modern contexts with modern concerns.

I believe in fat things and thin things that go ‘bump.’ I believe that Art may save the world and still be naught but nonsense. I believe a lot in nonsense and the/my/it’s therapeutic stutter.

Along this line, I believe these (artist statements), rife with overthought and bloated dogma, are very nearly the antithesis of the aesthetics they extol; that this very ‘placing’ of art; this ‘contextualizing,’ shoeboxes all the essential visceral reactions that good art elicits. But shoe boxes are what the world is made of, so here is my shoe size.
