Way to Bakersfield: an outlandish roadshow in art
Gallery Gachet is hosting an outlandish roadshow in art, Way to Bakersfield, opening Aug. 5, 7 to 10pm, at 88 E. Cordova St.
Bakersfield lies on Route 66 in the U.S. and has developed a mythical reputation as a sort of Gotham City destination for the depraved, down and out, lost souls, and accidental tourists, explains curator Calvin Bradbury.
The work on display will be outlandish and cultish in nature and will explores some of the darker spots in the human psyche. The artwork covers themes of alienation and the empowerment that can emerge from it at times.
Way to Bakersfield will run from Aug. 5 to Sept. 4, 2005, with an opening reception Aug. 5. Admission is by donation and refreshments will be served. Artist Bruce Ray will also provide some music.
