Yayem Digital Storytelling
Join us for a closing reception on Saturday, Feb 28 from 5-10pm
Atira’s Yayem Digital Storytelling Project (www.yayem.com) offers fundamental training in digital photography, storyboarding, script writing, and basic digital video and audio editing to hundreds of youth, on reserves and inner cities across BC. Yayem has also worked with youth in Peru and Rwanda to share this knowledge in multi-media storytelling.
In the words of 11 year old Flossie (Sk-elep First Nations, Kamloops) captured in her video, Cougar and the Cricket, “…storytelling is an important part of the identity of aboriginal people, ….told by elders to teach lessons, give warning and keep history alive.”
As part of the Fearless Muses: Making Your Own Media exhibition, Yayem will be showcasing selected digital stories, inviting the public to experience the beautiful landscapes, communities and rich cultural traditions of BC through the eyes of youth.
Yayem Digital Storytelling Project is supported by Atira Women’s Resource Society (www.atira.bc.ca). Atira is a not-for-profit organization committed to the work of ending violence against women and children.
